AC406 Rug Hooking Workshop

About this event

Instructor: Corinne Sanderson

Explore your inner creativity through the simple art of rug hooking! This introductory course is designed for beginners to discover the relaxing, rhythmic craft of rug hooking. Featuring only one stitch, it is easy to learn. By the end of this workshop, you will have mastered the basic technique of pulling loops through backing fabric and be well on your way to creating your own beautiful handcrafted mat i.e. coaster or trivet! All materials and supplies are provided.

Traditional rug hooking was first practiced by early maritime pioneers who used burlap flour sacks and worn-out clothes to hook mats for damp floors. It was historically practiced as a communal art form ("hooking bees"), providing for women to connect and unwind.

This is a 1 session hands on workshop. Follow up sessions could be requested if desired.

Bio: Corinne has a MEd Ed Psych and Counselling. 30+ years as a certified high school counselor and teacher experienced fabric artist in sewing, tapestry weaving, embroidery, crewel, cross stitch etc. 2 years study in NS learning from Canada's most preeminent rug hookers, member of the Rug Hookers of NS. Further specialty courses in portraits, landscape, water, trees, mountains, etc. Experience teaching rug hooking in senior centres, rec centres, teacher ProD days and privately.
