Developing a Sketchbook Practice: Fun and easy approaches for beginners
About this event
Instructor: Paula Vander
If you feel wistful watching someone capturing their experiences in a sketchbook, this class is for you. We will take baby steps with all kinds of warm-up exercises to conquer those enemies of creativity— fear of the white page and perfectionism. We will have fun, embrace wonkiness, and trust that if we simply focus on quantity, quality will eventually follow.
Week 1: Line
Week 2: Composition
Week 3: Shape
Week 4: Value
Week 5: Colour
Week 6: Perspective
Please bring the following materials to your first class:
• Staedler Black Pigment Liner 0.5
• Cotman Watercolour Sketchers Set of 12 half pans by Winsor Newton
• Waterbrush (handle holds water)
• 8.5 in by 5.5 in Watercolour Sketchbook, Landscape format, preferably without coil binding
You can upgrade your watercolours to a professional set like Daniel Smith 15 half pan set, but please do not downgrade. We will be doing colour mixing and cheaper paints have less pigment and do not mix well.
