The Old masters used to use soft pastels to start their paintings. With the ability to make their own they could inexpensively create a wide range of colours, that remains, to this day, colour fast i.e. true to the colours and shades they were when they were first applied on the paper. Today we can easily buy them in boxes of 12 or more sticks or half sticks. They are an amazing medium to use as you hone your drawing skills while learning about colour and shading. 

Prices of paint have soared, making it difficult for beginners to take up the hobby of painting, but pastels have remained an affordable medium, so for beginners wanting to venture into the realm of creativity without having to make such deep compromises because of pricing you will find the joy of using true colours as you draw, mix and create.

In the first class, you will be introduced to what and where you can buy your own supplies, so the instructor will bring in what you all will need to get you started.

It is a fun medium to use and once you get over the fact it is a tad messy you too will become one of those who love this medium and sing its praises.
