The Story of Our Heritage House
About this event
Convened by Jo Pleshakov
Brock House Society invites you to The Story of Our Heritage House, presented by Jo Pleshakov, former Brock House member and editor of the book, Thorley Park to Brock House: From Family Home to Heritage Landmark, 1912–2012.
Many Brock House members have wondered about the history of this remarkable building. Who built it, and who has lived here? Why did the RCMP once move in? Is it true that it was a home to squatters? What is the story behind the theft of the original oak banisters? Who were the visionaries who worked to restore and open Brock House as a seniors activity centre in 1978—and what happened next? Jo’s presentation will include many new images and anecdotes that were not in the book, plus information garnered from later contacts with Gilman descendants from the UK.
