Author Talk: Geoff Mynett

About this event

The series is convened by Yvonne Mitchell
Author Presenter: Geoff Mynett, a Brock House member himself

Early Days in British Columbia—Dawn, July 22, 1793 to Noon, April 25, 1858

What was happening in this spectacular land west of the Rockies long before BC became a colony?

Join Geoff Mynett for a fascinating journey into the early history of British Columbia — from Alexander Mackenzie reaching the Pacific in 1793 to the arrival of the first gold-rush ship in Victoria in 1858.

Discover the arrival of Russian, Spanish, and British explorers — including James Cook — the rise of the fur trade in New Caledonia, and the complex relationships between Indigenous nations and Hudson’s Bay Company traders.

Drawing on his book The Fort George Murders of 1823, Geoff explores the dramatic killings at Fort George (now Prince George) and the pivotal roles of James Douglas and others in shaping the future of the province.

A gripping look at conflict, cooperation, and the foundations of British Columbia.

Geoff's book The Fort George Murders of 1823 will be on sale at the talk ($25). Please bring cash.
