Around Town: Vancouver Maritime Museum
About this event
Convened by Patrica McCuaig and the Programs Committee
Around Town is a series of occasional outings to Vancouver’s cultural and historic places. Every month or so we’ll visit a different site: perhaps a museum, gallery, special collection, or heritage place. It’s a friendly way to discover some of the city’s most interesting spaces.
The Vancouver Maritime Museum excursion consists of an exclusive guided tour to uncover the maritime history of the Pacific Northwest and Arctic. Our guide will bring life to the history and stories of the spectacular vessel. The experience encompasses a 45-minute virtual below-deck tour of the boat, enhanced with archival photos and videos, as well as time on board the vessel to explore the main decks. Participants will also be able to explore other exhibits at the museum after the guided tour.
Accessibility note: Not all areas of the ship are appropriate and accessible to all bodies. There are ladders, narrow spaces, and uneven floors. If you have any questions, your guide can answer any accessibility questions or concerns when you arrive.
The Vancouver Maritime Museum is located off Ogden Avenue on the water at the north end of Chestnut Street in Kits Point (at 1905 Ogden Ave, Vancouver BC). You are asked to arrange your own transportation. Take the #2 Macdonald bus and walk a short distance from the stop. If you’re driving, use the Museum’s paid parking lot, or paid or free street parking.
Please meet Patricia at the entrance of the museum at 1:45 pm (15 minutes earlier).
