The Society

Brock House Society was founded as a registered non-profit society in 1974 to preserve and restore Brock House and operate it as a seniors' activity centre. During the week this heritage building provides a meeting place for its members to socialize as well as enjoy a varied and interesting program of activities.

A restored and renovated Brock House was officially opened in December 1977. The Lieutenant Governor, the Honorable Henry Bell-Irving and his wife presented the heritage plaque at an official ceremony in July 1978.

The Brock House Society Board of Directors has overall responsibility for policy and program, which is administered by the Administrator. Board standing committees include Care & Conservation, Community Outreach, Finance, Food Services, Greeters, House, Library, Membership, Music, Program-Instructional, Program-Recreational, Property Management, Socials, Special Events and Volunteer Resources.

Member volunteers are vital to the running of Brock House. They help in the cafeteria, library, office, in the foyer as greeters as well as on many committees. Additionally they put on new annual fund-raisers, the Summer Fair and Christmas Fair - all of which have become community events.

Through an "open door" policy, the Administrator is available to consult with members and thereby plan a schedule of activities that make involvement in Brock House a meaningful, memorable and worthwhile experience.

Brock House Society is financially independent, and operates with funds generated through revenue from members' fees, donations, activities, fund raising, interest from income from the Endowment Trust Fund and rental income from the Brock House Restaurant.
